What do TVGC Members get?

As a member you will be able to join us every second Thursday of the month for our regular meeting where we invite speakers to give talks, presentations and demonstrations.  In the past these have included lecturers from Hadlow College and Pippa Greenwood of the BBC's Gardener's World.

Throughout the year, our Social Secretary, organises outings to places of interest and the past couple of years we have joined forces with Gillingham Horticultural Society on these trips.  Previous trips have included RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, Sheffield Park and RHS Wisley Garden.

Our Social Secretary has also hosted Summer Garden Parties, complete with theme, and in 2016 year we had our first Open Garden event where we had guests from as far afield as Thanet.

During the Summer our members take part in the TVGC Front Garden Competition.  We are very proud of our little urban village and helping it to look its best is partly why the club was started.  No space is too small to enter; if all you've got room for is a hanging basket or two, that's fine.  The detail and care will be what highlights the winner to our judges.

Each year towards the end of August/begining of September we hold our Annual Show.  This is the opportunity for our members to show off what they've been up to in our gardens all year.  Producing fruit, veg and flowers to high standards and all in the hope of winning one our glorious cups and awards.  As well as our gardening accolades we also dabble in a little domestic bliss with both Baking and Craft sections.  We try our best to have something for everyone to have a go at.  We are all about taking part and having fun.

We are enthusiastically looking for new members to bring fresh ideas to our club.  A highlight for us this year is educating and encouraging the next generation of gardeners.  With this in mind we have extended our Annual Show to include sections open to local children of both members and non-members, aged 3-12 years.  We hope that this will showcase what we are about to those who might feel that a garden club isn't for them.

Later in the year we have a quiz night followed in December with our Christmas meal.  All-in-all we are a very social bunch, many friendships have been formed over the years and we hope many more will be forged in the years to come.
